The story of Buseesa Demonstration Farm is a story of vision, determination, learning and transformation.
The journey began in 2014, when Dr. Richard Lubega started the agricultural initiative on a small scale. Inspired by the idea that small pieces of land could generate household wealth when properly planned and diversified, he gradually developed the farm into a practical demonstration of commercial agriculture. Public reporting records that the farm later benefited from government wealth-creation initiatives, including Emyooga support, which helped accelerate its development.
Over the years, the farm expanded into an integrated agricultural model involving poultry, piggery, dairy cattle, goats, rabbits, fish farming, bananas, coffee, Hass avocado and other enterprises. The farm increasingly became more than a production unit—it became a place where farmers, students and other visitors could come to see and learn practical farming methods.
A major milestone came in 2025, when Buseesa Demonstration Farm attracted increasing attention from government leaders. In August 2025, State Minister for Transport Fred Byamukama visited the farm and commended its diversified agricultural model and contribution to wealth creation.
Then came the historic day of 20 September 2025.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni visited Buseesa Demonstration Farm in Buyanja East, Kibaale District, during his tour of wealth-creation initiatives in the Bunyoro region. Richard Lubega demonstrated the farm’s integrated enterprises, including cattle, piggery, rabbits and poultry. The President expressed his appreciation for what he saw and pledged UGX 12 million to support the purchase of two additional dairy cows.
The Presidential visit became a defining moment in the history of Buseesa. It placed the farm among the local examples being used to demonstrate the potential of diversified smallholder agriculture and the Four-Acre Model.
By 2026, the farm had entered another chapter: expanding its role as a practical learning and demonstration centre. Training activities have brought together farmers and community leaders to learn about enterprises such as dairy farming, poultry, piggery, fish farming and Hass avocado.
Today, the Buseesa story is therefore much bigger than one farm.
It is a story of starting small, embracing diversification, turning knowledge into practice, creating employment, training others and demonstrating that agriculture can become a pathway to household and community transformation.
From its humble beginning in 2014, through years of experimentation and investment, to the historic Presidential visit in 2025 and its growing role as a demonstration and training centre, Buseesa continues to evolve.
