Busesa Community Development Organization (BCDO) has embarked on youth skills training so that they can meaningfully contribute to the social-economic transformation of Uganda.

Youth in Uganda are the youngest population in the world, with 77% of its population being under 30. There are 7,310,386 youth from the ages of 15–24 years of age living in Uganda. These youth lack employable skills and if they are not empowered, the majority end up engaging in unproductive work which retard development.

It’s against this background that BCDO decided to empower vulnerable rural youths with practical skills in different ventures. These skills enable the youth to get hands-on skills to enable them to start their own business which helps them to be more productive in their communities.

From 2014 to-date over 600 youth have benefited from the BCDO skilling program. BCDO demonstration farm has also hosted internship students from African Rural University, Birembo War Memorial Technical Institute, and St. Andrea Kaahwa Vocational Institute among others. These youth have gained skills in poultry farming, piggery, fish farming, and goat farming among others.

According to the BCDO Executive Director, there is a high demand from the community applying for skilling. He however noted that as much as BCDO would wish to take on all the applicants, the organization has limited resources needed to skill of the youth.

He called upon likeminded partners who are passionate about youth empowerment to partner with BCDO in skilling the youth in Uganda, especially Bunyoro sub-region.
