Dickson farm manager at Busesa Community Development Organization (BCDO) demonstration farm reveals how important it is to feed animals on hey.
This happened on 28th/Jan/2024 at the farm during an exclusive interview with Ahabyona Mugaiga also known as: Max a journalist and at BCDO, Asiimwe Dickson a veterinary doctor and farm manager at with BCDO said that once animals are fed on hey, it is one of the most nutritious animal feeds and plays a number of functions.
Among them he says that it stimulates ruminating activity and results in a correspondingly higher feed intake, explains that it does not contain any fermentation acids that can curb the appetite of the animals for food insisting that with each additional kilogram of hay eaten, about 0.75 kg of concentrated feed is saved.
Other advantages explained includes: higher protein stability, energy, increased milk production and many others, Dickson did not stop from there but continued and also explained how the farm can benefit economically, he says that it can be sold and generate money that can help in the facilitation of other farm activities, he also adds that feeding animals on hey it helps one save more money he/she could have spent on other feeds hence an economic benefit.

During the interview he was pleased to appreciate the BCDO demo farm administration for being cooperative and always being society minded in their programs confirming that the farm will leave a positive impact on the community of Buseesa and Kibaale district at large through employment and acting as a role model to the rest of the farm around.
