Busesa Demo Farm has successfully conducted the application of manure on their farm gardens in Kajuma, Busesa Kibaale District.
This happened on 20th, December, 2023 where farm manager with the help of some internees from Birembo Memorial Institute were held a responsibility of supplying the banana plantation with the chicken manure.
Busesa Demo Farm is a demonstration farm located in Busesa trading Centre, Kibaale district, it deals in several farming projects such as piggery, goat ,poultry, cattle micro-banana propagation, crop and many others.
Due to the versatility of Busesa demonstration farm in different farming projects, the need for manure has not been a problem, in this case litter from the poultry is collected and used as manure in different farm gardens, the same applies to cows manure, pig and goat manure, something that has sufficiently made use of all the farm products.
Today chicken manure has been applied and according to Dickson who is a farm manager an also doubles as a veterinary officer has explained that chicken manure which is rich in urea, provides the plants with nitrogen to promote green leafy growth and make the plants look lush. Urea also aids the photosynthesis process of plants. Since urea fertilizer can provide only nitrogen and not phosphorus or potassium, it’s primarily used for bloom growth.
He continues to demonstrate to the internees how animal products including their remains can be utilized and turn beneficial to the farm through using them as manure for farm use and also some ties for sale to other farmer.
Dickson described how a farmer can use manure as fertilizer and save money for other requirements” Manure contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and other nutrients that plants need to grow. Farmers can often save money by properly using manure as a fertilizer. Farmers can also sell manure or manure products to gardeners, landscapers, golf courses, and others who use nutrients to grow plants.”
