Minister Kasaija and Kibaale District Leadership Inspects the Operation Wealth Creation Piglets

The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Hon. Matia Kasaija together with Kibaale District Local Government Leadership carried out a monitoring exercise on the piglets supplied to BCDO in April through the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC). The exercise took place on 6th July 2019 at BCDO Piggery Demonstration site located at  BCDO headquarters in Buseesa Trading Center, Matale Sub-county, Kibaale District.

In April 2019, BCDO received 2 white large piglets of two months old with the aim of improving the quality breeds of pigs within the area so that farmers can maximize profits from pig farming.

At the time of the visit, the piglets were 5 months old weighing approximately 25kgs which greatly surprised the monitoring team.

The minister applauded the Executive Director for BCDO Mr. Lubega Richard for taking seriously the piglets given to the organization by OWC, unlike other farmers whose animals have not added on weight as expected.

The minister also visited the goat’s farm at BCDO Demonstration Site and he was impressed with what the improved breeds of boar goats and the local breeds kept at BCDO farm.

The BCDO farm currently has 85 pigs and 32 boar goats. The farm also has three fully stocked fish ponds with catfish species.

The Minister pledged to support the farm with chainlinks and one dairy cow to improve on the demonstration site project.
