BCDO through Kibaale district Fisheries Department has received out 1000 fingerlings. The fingerlings were received by BCDO Executive Director (ED) on Friday 12th April, 2019 at Kibaale District Headquarters. BCDO was selected as a recipient because it met the minimum qualification based on fish pond requirement and capacity to maintain them.
The Kibaale District Fisheries Officer Ms. Kaahwa Enid said that Government has selected the prepared farmers for this first batch as they plan to have more beneficiaries in the second batch under Operation wealth creation targeting over 50 capable fish farmers.
In an interview with BCDO ED Mr. Lubega Richard, he applauded the Government for choosing BCDO to be one of the pioneer beneficiaries of the OWC programme in fish farming. He added that, BCDO Demonstration farm is open to farmers in Kibaale district and beyond for individual and collective learning.
The fingerlings were placed in the harpur for atleast one month to allow them grow and get used to the environment.
He also called upon government to provide more fingerlings for the remaining fish ponds which have a capacity of over 4000 fingerlings.
